Question: How much does it cost to design a web site?
Answer: Hiring someone to design a web site can cost from less than $100 to $1000's depending on the size and complexity of the site. A basic package of ours (MacGraphic Designs) would start around $300 for 3-5 pages. This includes taking pictures, scanning photos, page layout, text, simple logo design and advice on the content. It also includes the cost of actually loading the web site files to the web server.
Question: How much do web hosting companies charge?
Answer: Web hosting companies typically charge from $5 to $30 per month to host a web site. The rates depend on the size of the web site (in megabytes of computer space) and the number of times that the web site is accessed.
Question: Who updates the web site once it is designed?
Answer: The company that designed the web site typically offers some package for updates. The problem occurs when a company goes out of business or decides it is not profitable to update sites. It is possible to update your own web site but it can get messy and frustrating.
Question: Do companies who are listed on the Rush Connections web site need a web site to be included?
Answer: No. This web site is already designed and hosted. We are designing web pages for local businesses for $50.00 for 1 page, and $50 per year. This includes the design, content, photos and other graphics, as well as minor changes that are needed throughout the year.
Question: What is the advantage of having a page on Rush Connections versus getting my own web site?
Answer: In addition to the cost savings, the advantage is that local customers will see your web page. This is most applicable to companies with local clients such as grocery stores, auto repair shops, landscapers, etc. These companies don't necessarily need a whole web site but they would like to take advantage of an opportunity to get their company information available on the internet.
Question: What other sites will be included on the Rush Connections web site?
Answer: Links to the Rush Public Library and Town of Rush are included. Local churches and clubs are also included. These are included for free in order that people can use Rush Connections as a place to access local information in Rush. The web site also has a page for news bulletins and help wanted postings. Just send us an e-mail (or tell us about it) and we'll add these notices to the site at no charge.
Question: What information can be included in a company web page?
Answer: A web page can be compared to a brochure. It should include your basic company information: name, phone number, hours of operation, etc. It should also include an e-mail address if you have one. If you do not have a company logo, we can design one. You should also take advantage of the fact that it is easy to add pictures of yourself, your employees and your place of business to your web page. You can add a history of your company and your company philosophy. Typically with a web page, there's more room than you'll use so there is no need to limit the content.
Question: Can a map be included on my web page?
Answer: Yes. Let us know if you want a map included.
Question: When will the Rush Connections web site be available and how will it be advertised?
Answer: The web site will be advertised in the "Rush Business and Information Directory" that will be published about July 2005. Additonally, Ad's in the local Pennysaver, AdNet, and the Advertiser will also be placed. we will also place flyers in prominent locations throughout town. The web site will be complete at that time with pages for all businesses who have signed up. Businesses can be added at any time after that.
